Encomium to Kwame

Page history last edited by Jared 12 years, 7 months ago

If you're up to it, before Oct 1st (kill date) write a defense of "disgraced" former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick a la Gorgias' "Encomium to Helen." Completing this assignment will allow you to "bank" a response (i.e., you can skip one of our future responses without penalty).

Kwame Kilpatrick, the son of Bernard Kilpatrick and Carolyn Kilpatrick. What an honorable man who was charged mistakenly. Not only was he the youngest mayor of Detroit; he was like no other mayor. He was the diamond in the rough. He was accused of spending the cities money for leisure and buying a car for family use. The man was living life and simply having fun. People were jealous. Whenever someone is succeeding in life, others always know how to tear that person apart. This is what they did to Kwame. Who is the so called “they”? They are some of your own family members, the people who roam the streets of Detroit. Those who know nothing about someone but always instigate negativity.
Kwame was different. He brought change to Detroit. In his second primary, people were afraid. Some did not want him back. They knew he was a problem. Kwame let them have it. He came back strong and better than ever. Once again he was accused of having sexual relationships with Beatty, his chief of staff. The man was just trying to be a gentleman and give his heart to this beautiful woman and it seems so hard for people to understand. I don’t care about the text messages. Americans over exaggerate everything and I personally knew Kwame and he loved his wife and kids and would never do that to his family. The man was about love and care and there was not one slight of anger in his heart.
