Evaluation:

Slow food would be a better alternative to a normal Thanksgiving meal. First, the nutritional values of processed food are atrocious in comparison with local, naturally grown, home cooked meals. Second, slow food will benefit local food markets economically, whereas fast food or mass-manufactured food does not. Third, slow food is greener and more beneficial to the environment than manufactured or fast food.

The caloric value of a fresh tomato is roughly three calories. Compare this to a processed can of crushed tomatoes at approximately 32 calories. There is a clear difference in the nutritional benefits between slow food and manufactured food.

Slow food can benefit local economies and farms because, obviously, profits from local products will boost local markets. There has also been a recent increase in incentives for local farmers’ markets to increase fruit and vegetable consumption, which will boost local economies.

Slow food will cause much less harm to the environment because less waste is produced. Most local farms produce naturally-grown food, without the use of harmful chemicals commonly used in production for large food companies. It will also produce less greenhouse gas emissions due to a closer market.
