Response 7: Annotated Bibliography

Use the assignment planner we introduced on Tuesday to help you with the following annotated bibliography for response seven.

The planner is available through the Library main page by following the links:

Post an annotated bibliography of 7-10 sources to your roster page.

Remember, you may not use all of these sources in your project, but research and explore your topic over the next four or five days.

For now include:

  • At least Four sources that you consider to be preliminary research sources (primarily use: Wikipedia, the opposing viewpoints database, or the Gale Virtual Reference Library)
  • At least three sources that you find through step three of the definition paper assignment planner, using:

Cite resources properly: Use APA or MLA formatting -- your choice.  Follow the links in step three of the assignment planner for help (... you may even find machines that will cite for you! What?!)

Sample MLA Annotation

Lamott, Anne. Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. New York: Anchor Books, 1995. Print.

Sample APA Annotation

Ehrenreich, B. (2001). Nickel and dimed: On (not) getting by in America. New York: Henry Holt and Company.

Annotate each source.

Each annotation should:

(a) briefly summarize the resource's argument or purpose

(b) and a reflection on its applicability to your own research

Good Luck with the research!

P.S.

At this point in the term, it's a good idea to clean up your roster page before you start posting your research.  If you're simply linking-up a new page for your annotated-bib, call it whatever you want, but later in the semester be aware that we'll refer to these pages we're building as a type of techne, or a personalized technology that organizes the tools, methods, and techniques that you find useful for different kinds of creative projects or meaning making enterprises.

If you're cleaning up your main-page consider making several links to: “project drafts” “notes” “responses” “research” or “database”....etc.

Get used to linking to information and organizing these links in a useful way.  Consider using a table, or a more creative spatial organization to organize your work and your thinking.  If you want to use a template from the wiki, consider using the "activity tracking" template and just changing the headings.  You will get something like:

Tutor Jamie's sweet plans Resources Research Goals Date Comments

Here's how you would add a template when you're creating a new wiki page (name your page whatever you want):
