Many may disagree and argue that depression isn't all that serious and that it is simply normal for people to go through, but what about the people who harm themselves or others do to their chronic sadness and unhappiness (depression). I believe that depression isn't well known or understood by many.Proven facts and history of depression honeslty shows that harm can be done and will help many understand. People need to answer these questions like, how is depression caused? What is Depression? And/or Why do many people suffer from it?

Research Question:

1) What is Depression?

This isn't properly cited I will cite this later:

Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person's thoughts, behaviour, feelings and physical well-being. Depressed people may feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, helpless, worthless, guilty, irritable, or restless. They may lose interest in activities that once were pleasurable, experience loss of appetite or overeating, or problems concentrating, remembering details or making decisions; and may contemplate or attempt suicide. Insomnia, excessive sleeping, fatigue, loss of energy, or aches, pains or digestive problems that are resistant to treatment may be present.

4) What are the causes of Depression?

Now, there are many causes for depression it is different between age groups, gender and race. Part of this is because not everyone goes through the same things in their everyday life. The causes for a child more than likely will not be the same as an adults depression, niether will a teen to an older adults depression.

The causes of stress are:

3)  Can Depression be effectively and permanently reversed?

This isn't properly cited I will cite this later:

Depression is highly treatable with treatments such as therapy, medicine, and lifestyle changes. But it may not always be easily treated. For many people, depression may continue despite treatment. They may have treatment-resistant depression or TRD. This happens when medicine partly relieves their symptoms or does not help at all.

Research:

Primary:

1) Peoples real life stories with Depression

Secondary:

1) Statics of Depression in America

2) Wikipedia

3) Other Depression Sites

4) Survey (To see how much people know about Depression)

My Purpose:

The reason whay I am writting on depression is because it affects a lot of people in America experience it. Whether its mild, severe or happens once in a while, depression can affect anyone and the ones around you. I want people to be aware and learn about depression and its history so that way they can get a better understanding on what it is. As in some of the research stated alot of people think that the symptoms that they have are apart of everyday life but they may be experiencing sighns of Depression and not know it right away. I want to see how many much people know about depression and hopefully come up with the conclusion that not many know the seriousness about it.

Audience:

My audience are the people in America who do not trully understand what Depression is. Ill also be surveying the students around Wayne State University to see what they know about Depression.
