Project 3 outline
Thesis: The definition of globalization should simply be changed to the word “Americanization” because of the United States’ influence and dominance on the economic, political, and cultural levels in the global market.
I. Introduction
II. Background
III. Globalization should simply be defined as the word “Americanization” because of the United States’ dominance in the world economy.
A. According to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA),” The United States had the largest economy of any single nation ($13.9 trillion), followed by China ($7 trillion), Japan ($4.4 trillion), and India ($3 trillion)”.
B. According to the Bank for International Settlements’ Triennial Report of the currency markets, the market share of the dollar in cross-border transactions has remained unchanged at 85% over the past 15 years.
IV. The word “Americanization” should be the definition for globalization because of the spread and influence of the United States’ political system.
A. The revolt in Egypt in where the protestors wanted to end the regime of their current leader, and establish a democratic political system like that resembling the United States.
B. According to Myron. J Aronoff, Israel has taken dramatic political reforms in moving away from the Westminster model of parliamentary democracy to a system that resembles that of the American democracy.
C. America invading Iraq and Afghanistan to overthrow their governments and install a democratic political system.
V. Lastly, globalization should be defined simple by the word “Americanization” because of America’s influence in world culture.
A. The spread of American multinational corporations like McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Nike and Wal-Mart.
B. The influence of American “pop culture” on global culture.
C. The rise of the English language across the world. Maybe this?
VI. Refutation of why the definition of globalization should not simply be changed to the word “Americanization”.
A. The only liable argument against this would be on the economic level. Globalization should not be known as “Americanization” because China has been growing at a rate of 9% over the past 30 years and is projected to pass the United States by 2016, in terms of GDP.
VII. Conclusion
